PTC x NYC is a community of parents at NYC independent schools working together on one of the most consequential questions facing families today: what role should technology play in our children's lives — at school, at home, and in between?
We care about more than screen time. We're thinking about academic rigor and the conditions that make deep learning possible. About social and emotional development, and what gets displaced when a phone is always within reach. About AI and what it means for how our children think, create, and learn. About resilience — the capacity to sit with difficulty, boredom, and uncertainty without reaching for a device. About the alignment between what schools say they value and what their policies actually reflect. And about parenting in an era when the most powerful attention-capture technology ever built is aimed directly at our kids.
We don't have all the answers. We're comparing notes, sharing data, and trying to move together — because the problems are shared, and the solutions will be too.
School status board
Each school in our community is invited to complete the Techlaration school benchmark. One submission per school, from a parent technology committee representative. Claim your school below to get started.
Start a T+C at your school
A T+C is a parent-led group focused on technology's role in school and family life. It doesn't require official school approval to start — just a few parents willing to show up, compare notes, and advocate together.
You don't need a committee to start. You need a conversation. Find parents at your school who are asking the same questions and meet informally first.
Let your PA know you're forming a technology and community working group. Ask for a slot at the next parent meeting to introduce the topic. Most PAs welcome it.
Use the Techlaration school survey to establish a baseline. It takes 8 minutes and gives you a concrete starting point for conversations with administrators.
Once your T+C is active, claim your school on this page and connect with the broader community. You'll gain access to data from across the network and a group of peers doing the same work.
